Until I guess I was at the same distance I think -- -- there's what do you get your down. Usually maybe -- something's that's that's high. And then they they feel obligated to wear it of those four guys I got my data gets entered the senate office. I told Alaskan senate today. Didn't happen so -- -- senate tomorrow you know Father's Day is a day to really celebrate dads and sometimes. And that relationship between fathers and daughters is a little unique because. You know fathers have an easier time bonding with their sons they know what they wanna do with boys right so. When -- -- -- has a son kill even deals you'll start talking about -- taken my son to this Damon we're gonna watch this and Michael what about your daughter you know doesn't she go to the games and it kind of almost doesn't I'm like oh. Would my daughter wanna go to these games -- she'd rather just look at a manicurist her mom or something like our right. So I think -- struggle. With a bit developing a relationship with their daughters I know that with my dad he had no choice because he was the only thing I have. So when my parents split when I was a baby or is just an incensed. And my mom you know my mom was really young and didn't really feel like the responsibility of motherhood was. Something she really wanted to take on so my dad had to take me there is no one else would obviously at that point. So my dad raised me and I built a very special relationship with my dad three years because he was the only person I had to talk -- And boy were there some moments that are awkward. Like when you're twelve and the little red fairy comes press time the gas so I had -- All knowledge and my dad how horrible. I dead -- -- progress start I need some things yeah. -- I mean and just really through the years my dad has been there for me -- -- -- taught me how to ride my bike he was the person hey you. Was there and you know sizing up on my boyfriend and my girl for constrict -- -- -- he thought a lot of my friends are -- when I got older you know when I was like eight in college that was always my product like data. Stop look at my friends -- you and your friends -- Q it's and I know there dealings of adapters. But -- my dad was always such a great doubt it being a bachelor in -- it was single our entire while he's still as. And I -- he was very responsible he didn't bring around other women. I really only met during the course of my entire life to remember this is infancy Intel even today being 31 years old. I think I met a total of four or five girlfriends in that whole thirty year -- Yeah. We're responsible guy. To this -- because of the relationship I've been able to build with my dad you know he taught me how to change oil and a car forced me do that changed my tires. He was there all my games all my recitals. And to this day I call my dad every single day. Well. With the exception he says. I don't call is often when I have -- quote unquote friend in my life and new friend to so I start dating someone new my dad says that the phone calls to come fewer. And far between so it's like a column every other day or something. But you know it's it's a really special relationship to have. A closeness with your father I think it's it's healthy for women I think for instance and several of the guys I dated. They've said to me really in the first date first state and I mean several of the guys I've dated have said you're really close with your dad aren't -- Yeah about how did you know that -- he just the way you carry yourself the way you are on this date the way to conversation ends. You're -- your independent your strong. You don't seem like you need a man like they can sense this and the date and it was -- I mean numerous states. Some I think the relationship for a father and daughter is very very important because it carries with you that other it it brings. A sense to your daughter that other people. And other people can other people can sense it you know they can sense if she's. Got a good relationship and feels confident with her relationship with man. So I think asked Father's Day approaches it's probably wise for all of us even if you're divorced from the man. T really try to cultivate that relationship especially between your daughter and her father because it is such an important person in her life. And it more important -- you can even imagine you know our next guest -- he's gonna help you do just that how can you cultivate a strong relationship as a mother. How can you help your daughter cultivate that strong relationship with her dad. Stick around as nexus is your time camps. Well here to tell you -- how you can help improve your children's relationship with their dad is doctor Peggy Drexler author of the new book. Our fathers ourselves. Daughters fathers and the changing American families. Doctor Peggy welcome to the -- -- to be here how can mothers help enhance that relationship that their daughters have with their fathers. Both predictable. The mother mothers are generally don't want to spend most of that time -- There -- children especially from the beginning. -- traditionally but I think the bad are eager and open to be included and moms should include them. From the early stage you know carrying the baby spending time alone with the baby. And I haven't been that bad that he's gonna be able to take care debate beach and and Djokovic -- -- support herself that he shouldn't feel. Resentful but he stuck at home so I I I quite like team work. Mom has to encourage that and have time but the two with them alone. I know that it. That can pick it. And the as the girl gets older deck can pick her up after school help promote her team. Invite her to visit him at work. There are so many ways now that dad can get involved we have their daughter's ten and treat their daughters that they want their god so. I think mom had to -- encourage that and and I understand that her daughter's experience may have been different than hers. And I think downs are probably a little confused and it comes to daughters casino hatchery to relate to other boy ways. Because that's what they are -- maybe a girl can be a little intimidating for -- I don't think I I interviewed many women and they retrospective about their dad. And I think that there their fathers were were very involved but I think your point is well taken. Stepmother have often thought that this that they are carefully and and are critical of the time that badly -- with there. Batted with their -- help. That might want to you know drive around in the car. Why -- the legitimate activity. But mothers feel that they want that to relate to their daughter's the same -- they would yeah and so and then dad feel uncomfortable. Yes you know it's interesting I was actually raised by my -- from the time that I was born and tell you off when I got on a house my dad never remarried Ernie thank. And and just some of the things -- -- mentioning here like including data -- early stage. I think a lot of women are afraid to hand their infant over to their -- thinks is thinking oh my gosh you know does he really know what to do to. He doesn't have that maternal instincts that I tell you my dad didn't mess up with me I mean he had me from the time I was born. And somehow we made it 30 yeah an even with my dad here's the most bachelor. Type of guy I mean. He is still the ultimate bachelor the call on the Hugh Hefner voice data -- from and even a man like that he was a rock star he was always in a band. He was always a bachelor even that kind of guy. Where in a leather jacket drive around and Hartley he still knows how to take care of her baby to me was -- -- facts. But he I mean I didn't die is my point of. He's now an academic cool guy he's but did not perfect either of them and bad that you know our society our culture. Has had been thought I'd mothers. But they can't seem to know everything about responsible for help and they are responsible for mistake of and that's just not true. -- and still mothers have have really suffered. From the fact that they feel that they. You know have been. Under the microscope -- So I I I think I'd but I do think that they have been the ones responsible and and I have to fight that I think. It is adopted that debris and there. The father beat -- appellant court that you said yeah two you know girls in terms of the husband -- state choose it and they make the co workers you know it it he really helps to strengthen. You know hurt himself but a team -- -- that they've done okay good enough that. Right right you know one thing also when I got home from school every day my dad had a column when he was that works so. I I think dot dot also help the connection I you know I would kind of encourage may be moms to use that as a as a tool. To have their in their daughters and a son Jim Calder doubt that work can just say hi and how their day it was at schools is to pack. Break up the -- to work day just a little bit and kind of create that little bit of -- bonds that like I it just kind of made me feel like my dad was accessible even though he wasn't their home. You know I still had access to on. Couldn't carry the daughters as they get older too and that's somebody in in our fathers without my book I talk about. Wave to engage the father when you're older and I -- it easier for women. Because they're they're more into personally I related. To make somebody who can't. Let's start compensation you know mom giving parents -- daughter she gets older -- -- conversation I. And to you know and -- That about daring trip and what day. Have enjoyed throughout their lives and and I think that you know I think that will respond I really else. And I also like where you set about how women maybe will be a little critical of the activity that dad chooses with a daughter and that was one thing my mom when I would go visit her. She was very critical she felt like I was a tomboy because I was raised -- my dad so you know my favorite activities were -- I became it I was in band and instead of playing. The violin or something I played drums and I was always more of a boy and more attempt kind of boyish activities that ultimately at the end of the day you know I did get into the feminine staff and whatever but I do think that having. Knowing those activities and my dad teaching me change that oil in a car could have played chess with them unstuck I thought. Now as an adult I feel like that was definitely healthy even if it didn't turn me to tomboy just for a moment so I don't think women should be if -- hit that. I bet I bet your female -- to rent a video I mean who who wouldn't want to know how to do outspent him you know it. One week when we invite -- genders with with concrete wall in between I think we deprived. Father we deprive mother and we -- Pride park you don't -- yep I've got a whole range of activities that give you competent. That make you feel confident. I think that's what. You know that's what has been held to go back get away yeah that's what happened had access to those kinds of the this dad guilt and nobody talked. So. I could feel good it's I can teach their supporters and as mom should know that this. That's and daughters to have to create a unique experiences and -- better work that -- -- but it looked very value. I guess his sexual fantasy. Never wanted to be in a relationship with her he says she's definitely not the type you ever -- settled out this girl is simply and object in his mind and but she is somebody dot and apparently. Sleeps with them a lot of people. And so she has propositioned him. And this is -- his dream come true he's never is he always just felt like he was invisible to this girl who was really hot and kind of went on to actually pose for Playboy analyst says she's like super -- -- But he was always kind of a scrawny guy and did needs. You know didn't. Fill out look good until now he's in his mid twenties mid to late twenties and now he's good luck and and she's our browns and she's coming on Iran and he wants take advantage of it. And but he realizes that he's -- committed relationship with someone else. And he wants to continue being -- is committed relationship but he also wants a -- about this fantasy. Any knows that if he doesn't without profanity he will regret it for the rest of his life like -- will always regret it and he is afraid that would lead to cheating in the future. Plan like maybe you cheat with this particular girl if she came on -- on let's say seven years and -- marriage. Then you just like I got only about this fancy dinner I mean it's like the ones and he's really wanted to there. So he wants to tell his girlfriend that he wants to break up basically for a short period of time because it is -- cheat on her. Susan I do anything behind her back he wants to be honest. Sleepy wants to break up with her for a short period of time sleep with this girl get it out of assist on. And then go back to having his normal relationship and feeling like. He can move forwards without ever looking back into feeling like there's any regrets what you think wouldn't that be nice -- I just think it's not honest if he's gonna break up whether -- not mentioned. Not morality wants to hook up plus I think that's what he kind of was the week while Casey he says he go back to -- he gets his break up with -- -- and say do whatever you wanna do and I'll do it or am I -- And they get back together or there or he could be honest with parents say. Well I wanna break up to do that that's because our sleep with this other girl he's thinking that -- the relationship forever and a improbably well but it sounds like he's gonna do it anyway. So he needs to be honest and just how far can had a crush on this girls and doesn't ice it's not really -- he wants to be clear sexual crash only he has no intentions of having any kind of relationship with this cross has. He says no personality nothing like that she's just a sex object in his mind. And -- enough I could respect. As the woman if if my boyfriend said that to me I would just I don't know I feel. I would feel weird about it because what if he asked that again eventually -- -- like after their married but if he's asking about some all of this girl is now my new. Object of desire I'll just go out her one time and that's it you know yeah I mean I guess. But he's saying he's had a as sexual crush on this girl for years and you like ten years. And it's just been as one girl and now she's finally noticing him. And he has the opportunity to go for it. Any just doesn't feel like he can move forward without living out this -- first news. Pressure I don't think it's necessarily cheating I think it's a precursor to cheat and I think that's where it's going if you're sexting somebody calling in and up and that is on at some point you would be angry cheating.
